This resource includes an assembly plan and 16 slide PowerPoint for Black History Month in October.
It is suitable to use with KS2 or secondary aged children. The slideshow gives the opportunity to discuss why we might focus on black history for a month. It covers prehistory, ancient civilizations and 18th and 19th century Britain. There are 6 slides which outline key achievements of 6 different people of African or Caribbean descent, who have achieved great things in the past few centuries from Nelson Mandela to Mo Farah. (Please note no photos of the people are included owing to copyright restrictions).
The plan gives details about how to use the slideshow. I like to lead assemblies that are interactive and relevant to the children’s lives, so the plan gives plenty of opportunities for children to discuss ideas, give feedback and reflect.
This is a presentation on the athlete Mo Farah.
Use it as part of a lesson or for an assembly for KS2, KS3 or KS4.
The presentation covers his childhood, early success, training, medals and other interesting facts. The last part of the presentation includes some interesting questions to provoke discussion.
Please note there are no photos of Mo Farah included, owing to copyright restrictions.

This is a plan for an assembly on Harvest, with a focus on the theme of thankfulness. There is a PowerPoint on what harvest is and how it is celebrated in Britain included. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute!
I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves an anecdote to make it more relevant to the children. You can use the example in the plan or use an anecdote from your own day. This is then linked to the theme of harvest. There is a lot of opportunity for the children to think about their own experiences and to feedback. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with.
The resources are in the zip file. These are:
